My buddy's son and I went walking through the creek near the Battle of Asheville and found a few fragments of glass, porcelain, stoneware, brick and saw the old embattlements-trenches, or what was left of them. The one shard of glass says patented May 2, 1893. Which is obviously after the Civil War.
I'm not too sure about digging or MDing there due to it being a university now and any historical protections it might have. I let my friends son keep everything because we've got to keep those young minds interested in history and exploration and to help to continue the endeavor of our hobby. Which is the study and collection of man's history through his creations of treasure and garbage.

Well the patent date was after the war, so who knows why all that stuff is there and how much of it is from before or during the war. Hope you can spy some intact bottles on any future visits.

The creek runs right under the two sides of the conflict. Later I found the rose colored neck of a cork top bottle. I imagine what we found was from various dates both pre and post war era. This place is very well picked over. I seriously doubt finding a whole bottle unless one were to dig.

Great post and informative for me. I live an hour away and was unaware about The Battle of Asheville. Keep at it.
