Kinda hard to answer with out being more specific.
It is a basic Goldmaster. Are you looking to buy one?
It only has 3 controls.
Here is a link to the manual at Whites website.

GMZ Manual

I have the Goldmaster V/Sat.
The GMZ has a knob to turn the ground rejection positive, or negative.
It has a silent search, and on-off switch controls gain.
Simple, all metal, it does not discriminate.
Very simple to use.

It's on my short list. I want to get one just for gold hunting to use with the drywasher. I don't think my cz7a pro will do me much good with the size of the average nugget in southern ca and az.
Also on the list is goldbug, whites gmt and Sgt. My budget is around 1K.

What is the frequency on your cz?
Goldbug II has a higher freq than mine.72khz.
Finds smaller pieces, but also smaller junk. Mine finds stuff so small its not worth digging, unless its gold.
Mine will pick up a small .125 gram picker. Very small.
Where talking the size of a half grain of rice.
Mine at least has the iron id switch.
You will have to read up on the regular goldbugs.
The GMT does more than the GMZ, but more money.

It runs at 5 Hz in ID mode and in all metal it runs at 15 Hz.

15 is not bad. My groundhog runs at 15.
I think the tesoro lobo Straqs run at 17 or 19,probably 17khz, and people say they are good gold machines.
What I would do is buy a small nugget from ebay, say, .250 of a gram, and see if your machine will pick it up under 2 inches of dirt.
That will answer your question.

I always carry my picker with me to test the ground I am searching to make sure I can hear it and my settings are right on anyway.
I bury it a couple inches, and set my detector to the best setting to hear the picker.
It is in one of my books to put your test nugget between 2 pieces of velcro light colored to easily see it.
This way you wont lose your nugget if your detector wont pick it up.
The GoldbugII has no discrimination, or iron id.
It is a all metal beep and dig.

Thanks for the great ideal. I will be selling some of my gold rings this weekend, so I will get a small nugget to test out my detector to see if I really need a specially prospecting detector.

A friend from here and I went out for a day searching an area, around 2 old mine shafts, and 2 connecting washes with quartz veins in the area and searched the veins.
All we got was lead and brass.
Now, not the detectors fault. Just a bad area.
But, it is a detector made for 1 thing, the GMZ, and it does cost a little for that one thing.
I am actually thinking of getting a Tesoro Lobo Super Traq.
Not that I dont like my Goldmaster.
