I found 1939 Jefferson nickle in great shape no mint mark present.

I don't find to many old coins this was a treat for me!

I found a 1903 Indian head on my first day behind my office. I bent down to dig a signal and sung the detector to the side and got another signal, I looked down and on the surface was a REALLY dark penny in bad shape. I cleaned it up and was amazed to see the 1903 date. Only other old coins are a 1941 w merc. and a 1940 wheaty found in the same hole in my neighbors yard.

Onion, There are several varieties among the 1939 nickels. Get yourself at least a 10X loupe to examine your coins. As I recall there is a variety with Monticello doubled that is worth good money also other types. exanimo, ss
