Going up to nh twin river area would like some help

Hey all ive been doing some research and finally decided im going to take a nice trip to nh Im going to be staying at the twin river camp ground what im really looking for is what are the laws and restrictions to the area and surrounding area i was thinking of following the wild ammon river up towards the mountain but any people that have been in the area can you help me out with and advice and let me know whats what out there. I only plan on panning maybe a sluice but from what i also hear I am unable to use a shovel or "hand tools" ?

You should be just fine with a spade. Just dont dig the bank. Make sure you park with the rubber clearly off of the pavement and have at it!

You can't use a shovel in the White Mountain National Park but you can use a scoop. I ordered the Wolf Trap Scoop. Out side the park you can use shovel. In the park you can only use a sluice under 36 inch. It seems to have lots of garnets also.... Have fun..
