I found this yesturday in a small box in a crawl space in the attic. Anyone know what it is. ? This buffalo nickel was in there as well.

Well, I can't tell you what the first coin is, but the second, I believe, is a Russian Ruble from the Soviet era.

I believe the bearded one is Dmitry Mendeleyev, a Russian chemist credited as being the primary creator of the first version of the periodic table of elements. This one ruble coin celebrates the 150th aniv. of his birth.

What are the words and date on the reverse of the top coin?

The first "coin" looks like a medal from one of the mints, I'd say most likely Philadelphia.
