Fantastic! What a find. I'm trying to come up with an idea for what it was used for. Any ideas? The hinges have me curious.

I'm guessing that the ornament was affixed to a staff and the hinges would allow for a candle to be placed in the "body". Somewhat of a really awesome flashlight.

Congrats Bonnie, I am so excited for you and your mom.. you guys deserve it!!!

It looks like it was made to balance on a shelf, and could have contained a small container which would have housed a special piece of jewelry.

Would have like to have seen a picture of the bottom of this piece.

Nice Find.

Congratulations Ladies !

Nice unique find bonnie! Is it eagle or a chicken or a turkey or duck?Maybe its made so you can put a egg in it.The hole in the hinge maybe for poking the egg with a needle to drain out the egg white or yoke.

WOW ! Awsome find !

is that Real Gold ? Looks like it !
