Hey I am in South Carolina. I was wondering is there anyone nearby who has melted iron/gold mixed? I have filtered the material I have down to 50 and 30- mesh and was wondering, since I see very little rock in the 30 mesh, could it be melted down with the iron like I have it now? And I guess what would be the best way to get this melted after I have worked it down?

I would rather melt it with the iron to attempt to get all the gold I can from it. But with as much iron/gold mixed (160grams) is it ideal to try to melt with iron?

Thank you!!

The very top is 50mesh, bottom 30 mesh, and the center picture is the smallest stuff imaginable. 1gram on the center pic...Any thoughts? The pictures do not really do them justice

A friend has a magnetite mine. Gold is inside the magnetite crystals. He has gotten 200-300 ounces per ton by grinding up the magnetite.

Thanks for the replies! I think really I need professional help with this. I have mercury, I just don't use it. I believe mercury could be an option, also Goldfinder's suggestion is great too. But I am having the issue that I believe (after seeing bigger pieces) that it is mica, with gold. As if a mica was laying in your hand, gold sprayed on it, and another sheet of mica thrown on top. But I do not know how it melts and am kinda scared to try with the smaller stuff, because I don't want it blown out of the crucible. It is only 1 gram and you can see it is a small bit, so I don't want any to blow out by using excessive flame, etc.

I tried once before and the guy blew what I had all over a parking lot and it was windy too. But anyone around SC and could help me with a melt? Or advice? I'd like to be able to do this conventionally with what I have, but I do also want to be able to get all the gold from iron pieces as well. I can use a magnet but I guess it is not small enough to grind away the iron? Because it still very much looks like gold as well, and I used a spiral wheel just turned way down because of the smaller stuff.

I also have a blue bowl, but doing it without classifying it in the spiral wheel (desert fox), seems to be an issue to me that I have not done it before. It seems to be a necessity, and now that I am this far I am at a standstill because I want to be able to get all the gold, by letting go as little as possible.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Can anyone tell me about how they get the gold from the iron too? I can clearly see gold and iron together. Thanks!

Wow Iron melts at 2,800F. I don't know about you but my kiln couldn't handle that. Have you considered just leaching it with Thiourea?

Iron oxides will dissolve in certain acids while leaving the gold intact. You can try vinegar or brick cleaner for example. I've successfully used hot tub filter cleaner. Do it outside and let it sit for days and days if needed, retail acids are not strong enough to be fast but they work.
