That is the most beautiful crystal I've ever seen... or probably will EVER see in my lifetime! If I were you, I would've been scouring the place you found it at... where there's some, there's got to be more... even if it's not as elegant.

The clear material is quartz. I would suspect that the gold colored material is iron oxide (limonite) coating internal fractures.

Thanks for all ypor replies,I found it while MDingThe detector hit on it and I could not for the life if me figure out what it had seen as the crystal was covered in clay/mud!I am very aware what gold is I mine hardrock and dredge. You are correct in that it is quartz, quartz crystal and I assure you it is not iron oxide,it has also been examined by several experts,Thanks for your input ;)

kuger,
That's awesome man!! I'm glad you are already knowledgeable on gold... sometimes the nay-sayers tend to look at the negative side of things. Regardless, it's extremely beautiful and the gold color seems almost magnified by the crystal! :)

Hey Kuger...take another photo with a coin to show size comparison..thats truly awesome...I found a nugget in October in Northern California..posted here on the Best Finds forum..with lots of quartz, but not close to the matrix you found..thats truly amazing..I'd hold onto that one..one of a kind for sure !!

I will get some more pics as soon as the wife gets back with the camera. It is hard getting the right angle to show it the best because of the fascets, but comparison is easy enough!I also have a spot where we used to dig green crystals,I think that is probably a copper intrusion but it is jade colored. ??? Thaks for the comments and it is in a safe deposit box and now a family heirloom.

Exactly when did you find it?

I only ask because it reminds me of the twin towers which makes it an even greater treasure 8)
