Honestly, I have not tried this, but a friend from work took his son on a scouting venture during a very rainy period a couple years ago. They had trouble finding enough tender to start their fire. One of the leaders shared this with the pack: in a pinch, apparently Doritos chips have enough oil in them to help start a fire. He said any fried chips work but they happened to have Doritos. He pointed out, most campers have chips with them. I thought it was good to know. Sounds weird, but sometimes strange stuff works!

Nice finds Old Dude. I was surprised how many hits I got on this search: Starting fires with chips!

Yes, have tried this in real life while backpacking. Fritos work great because of all the oil in them. Pringles a bit slower, but you wouldn't guess that looking at this photo taken while testing at home.
