Good Day for MaineRelics, 2 confirmed 19th century Finds, A Really big Penny !

The weather here in Maine has been Incredible and holding!! 62 deg F yesterday and lots of Rain !! 56 today and clearing ! Perfect for M--ding ! In what I call the no silver field !! A big Huge farm field not to far from home that has been suppling hay to farmers scince the early 1700's. I have hunted this field 6 or 7 times already this year but it is big FIELD! Had 2 and a 1/2 hours today afterwork 2 hunt and conditions were perfect ! Just after a rain!! Signals few and far between in this field but has potential 2 be old!! Before today I had Managed to coax from this field, 6 Indians , earliest beeing 1862, An 1844 Bank of Montreal 1/2 penny token , 2 confirmed Colonial Buttons, and a few nice later flat button! and various 19th century farm tack! But not 1 silver coin ,, And actually very little clad , only the Pennys u see on the horseshoe was the clad 4 the day today!! Anyways today I got this 1826 Georgius IV cartwheel penny, These things are huge!! I hope the size comparisome Pics, with the 1828 US mint large cent come out ok cause these coins are quite a bit larger !! I am glad to get my hands on one. Also this nice old cast iron lock, Marked on the keyhole cover M. W. & Co. Which after a ittle research turned up as Mallory Wheeler & Co. Of New Haven CT. circa 1865, I am going 2 post A pic of the only M. W. Co. lock I could find on the net ! Not a match but it does confirm the same maker !

It sounds like that field has been very good to you. You could make up quite a fine display just from that one location. With the horseshoe, of course

The 1826 Penny is not as big as a Chartwheel Penny which was only produced in 1797.

Still, it not one I find over here very often, maybe only got 2-3 in my career

I have never sound a George IIII Copper.

Thanks for the clarification crusader , I did a little more research ! This stupid yank thought that they were both called cartwheels !! The first pic is an 1826 Georgius IV , Like The coin I found, second Pic is the 1797 cartwheel! MaineRelic.

Grats ...I loved detecting up there when stationed in Brunswick.

I found one of the 1844 Half Pennys here in PA two weeks ago...funny that another would show up so soon.

In four years I ran into ONE other person with a detector in Maine....isn't that nuts!!!

I rarely see anyone out!! I can't find a hunting partner up here That really wants 2 go out and detect seriously.

Yeah there is soooo much to find up there and no one around...

I found an old tavern cellar hole from the 1700's and in front of the door I found 27 coins from the 1700's.

People should RUN not walk to that state....lol

AFTER you get it all and retire rich that is...
