Great dig I would have to agree with Hispan and others that it is at least mideval. Although I have seen similar rings that were thought to be Viking.

I think you're right garryson, when I looked more closely I can see the blue twine that binds it together :laughing7: There are also other strawbales in the distance.

My friend who studied ancient & medieval history at Uni said that the ring can well be Bysantine and even linked to the Crusades. Please let us know if you happen to find out anything about it. We might have another banner find.

I agree, because I couldn't make up my mind on Roman or Medieval, it has Roman influence but looks sort of Medieval, so the late Roman or Byzantine period would fit in the middle. But its a little different from what I'm used to.
