Good week for nickels

I picked up $180 in nickels so far this week, in my efforts to pull 1oz of war nickel silver a month. (Spoiler alert: I'm going to fail miserably this month). I still have about $40 to look through. No war nickels so far, but I did get two nice finds:

1. A 1916 buffalo - my oldest nickel so far. The date is clean, but the back is so dirty I can't tell whether there's any horn intact.
2. A 1938-D!! My rarest Jefferson so far. I was beginning to think I'd never see a 38 or 39 with a mint mark. The condition isn't too bad either - I'd rate it a VF-20.

Two personal bests in one week. Not bad.

Hopefully I'll pull at least one silver out of the rest. Have to get through these and dump a bunch of dimes and nickels so I can pick up halves today.

Nice finds. Its always fun finding buffalos and silver nics. I like searching nickels too because there is a nice assortment of keepers u can find. Good luck with the rest.

nickel find totals since feb 2013

150 boxes since feb 2013: 4 "V"s, 8 au/ms proofs, 165 war, 28 good to ef buffs, 18 no date buffs, 7 38/39 mint marked, 8 au/ms jeffs 50's to 69, a few 55's and 49S's. still looking for the 50D. most of these coins I list on ebay under user name ULSTER-RELIC. when silver price stops behaving like barry Obama's approval rating I will start listing my mercs, rosie's, barbers and other ag.

Thanks for those numbers. I'm still waiting on my first V nickel. Getting closer, got a '26 last week and now a '16. Maybe next week is my week for a V nickel!

Update: finished the rest of the nickels and got a '45-D, my 5th war nickel for the month. I need to up the volume but it is hard with nickels.

I just started this year and have been through about 40 boxes. The last 2 produced 2 poor condition Vs (my first 2). I have gotten 29 wars, 17 buffs (8 from one box). I get about 5-8 boxes a week now (when I am home). Goal for 2013 is 160 wars, 80 buffs, and 4 Vs. Hopefully I hit it. Halves goal is 125 90% & 875 40% for a total of 1,000 silvers!
