Been there-done that with the 1916 Merc. In my case I saw a D that was not really there. Had plenty of helpful comments from our fellow treasure netters along the way. lol Nice finds.

That livery 'style' button is odd. Design looks later than the normal 19th C examples, any backmarks?

That's a problem I would like to have - not digging wheats. I'll bet that 1916 gave you some heart palpitations until you could put a glass on it for the mint mark !

Heck,I know that rush when you dig a 1916 Merk ,and turning it over to find that small mint mark only to find it is an s ,but still a nice find.

Yep. That's right! Just throw all the wheaties back. I'll be along shortly. ;) They're not worthy!

First off my eyes aren't what they used to be. The merc is a 1916 with an s mint mark. All I could see was a d until I found a magnifying glass. Oh well maybe next time. This was second time to this spot. I've dug close to 80 coins and not one wheaty penny. But 4 silvers and an indian. Makes no sense.

I can see getting just a "bit" excited over the possibility. After all, finding the 1916-d dime is a holy grail, isn't it? Why, one could retire on that one coin alone! ;)

Congrats and that dime is in pretty nice shape!!

know what you mean! had a 16-S last year I believe. Could have sworn it was a D until it was under magnification, then it was an S. Checked a couple of times to make sure it didn't change to a D
