I posted this in the mineral forum, but this was the thread I was looking for. Did I miss out on the gold and just found the remaining quartz?

You got a reply over on the other section from me, but to summerize:
There's only one way to find out! Crush & pan or do a assay.
I'd check for more similar rocks before I do any of the above. (i.e. check out the source, get a couple of specimens to compare results of either test)

Ah, glassy things ain't my strong point. Take my thoughts with a pinch of salt.
Roughly where was it found? Obsidian comes to mind, so does slag. Slag is usually more "porous", from gas bubbles. But it's not always the case.
If metal production was near, I'd guess slag. However, if obsidian has been found there before, I'd go with that.

Hello - we found this round stone in a creek in north Georgia. Wondering what it is. It looks like it might have quartz on the surface. Is this a geode? It's very round. IMG_0748.JPG IMG_0749.JPG

I have a bunch of rocks that I can't seem to identify. I see that this page hasn't been used since 2013. So before I go through the trouble of posting any pictures can you send me a quick reply so I know my pictures will be looked at?
