I found this in the badlands of ND. I am familiar with most I find but need help with this one. At first it looks like a normal formation. When I tried to flatten the bottom it appeared metallic and very shiny. It is not magnetic to light magnets and after some time rusted. It also seams heavier than equal sized formations. Can you please help me figure out what I got here. ? In the larger one you can see it in the pic but there is also large clear and green crystals embedded in it as well. This rock is super heavy very unusual the blue crystal is so bright it's ultraviolet like in light. The smaller one is also heavy and completely loaded with some crystal also and it's texture is hard to describe it's smooth but also pourus like . I found them on the hayward shoreline in Hayward Ca. I have found some amazing looking rocks etc.this is also part of pacific coast trail .Any idea [emoji362] what it can be ..thanks a
bunch .

100% that is azurite. A Copper ore. Green = malachite

The top one looks like just some ancient sea life* I didn’t see there were multiple rocks

How hard is it? If you can scratch it with an iron nail, it’s not quartzite. It could be calcite crystals or selenite crystals, but most likely it is just quartzite.

I'm on vacation and so don't have access to my usual tools to I took what I'm assuming is a cast iron firedog and pretty easily scratched the rock as in the photo:

Probably not. You can look up the characteristics of meteorites using google....only slight attraction to magnet and physical appearance say no to me.

Possible Quartz with Goethite inclusion

Found this gem in a river in North Carolina near Cherokee. Getting it cut tomorrow and appraised, opinions? Maybe it’s topaz? Or diamond? It didn’t scratch my ruby, and has the crystal pattern of a topaz.
Topaz aren’t known to have Geothite to my knowledge so some expert eyes would be nice. Thanks

No to the Diamond ! ^Topaz or Quartz more likely ! It would look real nice faceted ! A real good friend of mine went to Oregon and hunted for sun stones. He got a real nice specimen and had it faceted into as many angles as he could have done and it looked EXTREAMLY NICE !!

It doesnt look it in this pic but you can see through this rock. Its not clear like a magnifying glass but you can see light light, color, and dimension. i found a bunch of these burried near this symbol.

Hello! Most definitely not a rock due to the possible air bubbles (maybe some slag of some type)
Very sharp and tough (couldn t cut a section). Not magnetic. Found next to some old settlements.
Also tried melting a very little piece with a propane torch. Got it red but not melting, so high melting point.

I'm new here and sure hope I'm doing this right. Meaning uploading the pictures. Well I have this rock that I love but can't seem to find out what it is. Please help. I've had this for years and don't remember where I got it from. I want to say a friend of a friend who lived in Long Beach was doing work in backyard and needed to dig a big hole and many different cool looking rock came from there.

Hello I'm new here and hope I'm doing this right. I don't know if the other post went thru so here I am again lol. I have his rock that I've had for years. Can't really remember where it came from. I know I got many other rocks from my friends friend that lives in Long Beach and was digging in his back yard. He gave me some amazing rocks. Don't know if this one was from that bunch. So I can't say for sure that it came from Long Beach. But it's brownish with what looks like many different rock minerals in one. But I could be wrong. I love this rock and would just like to know more about it. Please help. Thank You -Regina

Hello! I am new to this site. As I said in my introduction, I lead sort of an isolated rockhounder/ prospector life. No one in my family shares this interest, and since I don't drive, I am unable to interact with those who do enjoy rocks, except for online. Therefore, I am never really certain that what I am seeing is what I believe it to be. I hope this is gold! These pieces were all part of the same rock. I bashed it, in the attempt to break off a small piece, and have a look at the inside. When I did, it more or less collapsed. Little pieces of the shiny metallic stuff fall off every time I handle it. There is more visible, than appears in the photos. I realize that the photos are really poor. I am afraid these were the best of many attempts. I found it in western Nevada, proximate to Reno. I would like to know, do you think it could be gold? And if so, what do you think the rock surrounding it is? Thank you so much!

Weird Rock

I Found This Rock Under my porch is it slag?
It has weird stuff preserved in it or could it be a dead comet?

This is the rock that all of the rich gold bearing veins run in, in one of my claims.
The main rock types in the area are greenstone and argilite. With the gold bearing quartz veins typically running in the contact zones between the two types. Second picture shows a small vein in the same rock as the one I’m holding.
My guess is this is an argilite that’s been further metamorphosed?
I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I say it's either Obsidian or a Garnet , Obsidian is black and the Garnet is a brownish like your picture shows........so I change my guess to garnet.
