There is a product made locally by Navlet's Nursery in California called Liquid Spade. It turns adobe clay into mush in minutes. It can be applied with a garden sprayer or mixed with water in a sprinkling can for smaller aplications. I have used it and had amazing results. I'm sure there are other similar products on the market. Ask your local nursery about soil softeners and conditioners. It smells awful but the odor goes away quickly and you will think you are digging into sand.
