Went to a local park this morning for a short hunt and it was a good one! First find was the necklace at only about 1". The small rock in the middle is actually a small diamond (woohoo...). Then found a bunch of trash and clad, about 3 dollars worth or so. Then came the silver rosie! Got a really nice, steady hit on the Ace 350 that said dime @ 6". (Actually one of steadiest hits I ever got. Stayed the same in every direction.... Always dime @ 6".) I cut a nice big flap and popped it and there it was! Right at the point where the plug broke loose and laying flat. The face unfortunately has a big scratch on it but otherwise it looks like its fresh off the mint.
About 20 minutes later I got a really unsteady signal that really questionable when I went to pinpoint it. Only got a ding about every third sweep and pinpointing showed it at 8". Well I cut another nice big plug and popped it. Went in with the pinpointer and got nothing. I decided to try the "supertune" trick and tried again...weak beep.... Took a few more inches out and tried the pinpointer again. This time I got tone. One last piece of dirt out and pinpointer said its in my hand. Carefully broke the dirt apart, and there it was! My second silver and my first Mercury dime!
The Rosie is a 52 D, the Merc is a 44 S.
Took a picture of the hole that the merc came out of just because its the deepest coin I ever got.
Thanks for all the encouragement everybody has given and for all the tips that you guys put up. HH

Nice dimes that merc is in good shape ?close to full bands on the back ? I envy the rosie scratched or not . Ive dug many coin types over the years but a rosie silver dime still eludes me.

I compared the Mercury dime to some pics and I think it is closest to a VF. The front shows slight wear around the hair curls, all feathers are clear. The back is almost perfect :)
I did about 100 hours of detecting last year trying to learn the machine and was just lamenting over Christmas the lack of silver coins... Found some gold and silver jewelry but not silver coins. This year has already been good to me. About $40 in clad, a gold grill and a nice silver ring with a good size garnet.
Thx for the interest. HH

I like your Rosie and your Merc is a beauty! BUT my fave is the unique necklace, really nice and looks quite old. Have fun! Andi
