Hey guys, I had to have spine surgery this week and before I went in I managed to secure permission for a new site and get one last day of detecting in before I would have to hang up the detector for a few weeks of recovery. The site is a 100 acre home/farm built in 1802 and from what I can tell its never been detected. Located in Amissville, VA close to Battle Mt.
I only had about 4-5 hours in the absurd heat so i tried to make the best of it by hitting the areas I thought would produce as efficiently as I could. I was there for about 5 mins when I managed two first for me in one hole along with my second oldest indian head. All in one hole I found an 1865 2 cent piece (my first 2 center), an 1858 Flying Eagle cent (first flying eagle) and an 1865 Indian (now my second oldest). At the time it was my oldest indian but later in the hunt I found a fatty but I cant tell the year!
I was hoping to find my first seated silver and with those first initial coin finds i thought it was going to happen but it never did. I pulled about 15 buttons up and one of them is now my favorite button. I dont know about you guys but I dont see many Eagle I buttons like this one...or with this much gilt still left!
I found several indian heads and other relics but my camera just died and i am literally too sore to go find the charger.
Anyway...I cant wait to get back to this place after i recover.
Phil
P.S. The Eagle I button is Alberts GI 79 C4, its backmarked W. Wallis Extra and its one piece
The floral/flower button is backmarked Benedict & Burnham
