My wife and I have been searching this old house in hopes of finding some old coins. Didn't find any coins but did manage to stumble across a Civil War Campsite that hasn't been hunted. The first day we were out there we didn't find anything (we searched around the house that was built in 1869). The next day I got a little bit further away from the house and found a Sharps Ringtail bullet. Today we go back and I find 4 more bullets and my wife found one. There is a very strong spring bubling up out back of their property where I am sure the CW troops stopped to rest and get water. We will be going back next week in hopes of finding more relics.

Re: Got out today and found some Bullets

The odd multi ring bullet is an 1858 sharps "multi-ring". That is one of the "once in a lifetime" finds of the civil war bullets. My avitar is my one and only multi-ring, larger caliber than yours but still a heck of a find. Look up MM 191- mm 193. These are some of the more expensive CW bullets you can find. below is a link

That's a GREAT lead find there!  Several nice Sharps drops AND a MULTI-GROOVE!  That's a Rarer find than a Shaler with all three pieces!

Re: Got out today and found some Bullets

Thanks everyone. The site we are detecting is south of Kansas City about 25 miles. Some people think I may have found the path General Sterling Price used to retreat from the Battle of Westport. I will be going out there again next week and will take some pictures of the area.

Finding those old bullets are a lot of fun and make you think. The last time they saw the light of day they were on there way to a war target.

It is amazing how these particular rifles and bullets are normaly area restricted, the multi-groove is normaly only found on the west side of the Civil War theater. I was lucky enough to find my multi-groove and a confederante shotgun slug both on the same day, a foot apart from each other and on the North Carolina coast.
