I got this buffalo nickel for around $20 I think I want to get it graded. Is it worth the cost after I already invested $20.

I think it is MS 64 or 65 and I dont think it has been cleaned. I know the pic isnt the best but it looks really good to me. If you guys see something point it out.

I see MS-65. Considering that, 1) you got a great deal and 2) it is still not worth slabbing. If it had a full strike, then yes, it probably would be. However, you have a beautiful $40-50 type coin. I wouldn't mind having one of those myself.

While I agree that you made a fairly good purchase and that the coin is a real nice Buffalo Nickel, I am not sure that it would grade at MS-65! It may make MS-64 but I feel that it is a solid MS-63 that teters on MS-64. The reason is because of the rub on the Indian's hair above the braid. The coin was either apparently stored in a roll with many other (probably 1938-D) Buffalo Nickels too long or was previously in an old and loose Grading Services holder where it was rattling around inside with the Obverse making contact with the plastic. I am not sure others will agree with my assessment but that is what I see!

I guess it's just one of those things you need to see in person; I can't really tell what you're getting at, but you are much more experience than I am, so you would see things that I wouldn't.

I edited, cropped and enlarged the pics as well as outlined the area that I referred to. Besides having some rub, you can see a little bit of rash on the Indian's hair in the Northern section of the outline. Surprisingly, there is little if any rub on the Buffalo's horn, front shoulder and rear ham and leg where you expect to find some considering the rub on the Obverse. I have to admit, that the rub and rash does not appear to be that bad in the edited pics and thus, the coin might grade MS-64.
