Another no gloves day, but only could fit in 3 hrs 15mins. Another mixed bag of goodies;

18th C Cufflink :)
18th C Scabbard Hook
Blank Silver Sixpence
Rose Farthing
10 Roman Coins
Lead Token

Plus I had 2 Bronze Age fragments circa 1000BC :headbang: (We only get a couple of things from this period per year, so 2 in a short hunt is good)
Bronze Age Socketed Axe, with part of the loop (less than 1/2 complete)
Bronze Age Spearhead Point

For this time of year we are doing much better than previous years :icon_thumright:

Nice finds! I am already in standby for the next 5 months, my surroundings are already covered with frozen ground and snow.

Done a quick drawing of how the the Bronze Age Axe would have looked.

What is strange is that it would have been half the size of a normal one, circa 100mm. (it would have been 55mm in length) However, it twice the size of the later Iron Age Votive Axes (25mm). So a very small example, but not small enough for a Votive piece. :icon_thumright:

On one hunt two Bronze Age finds? Youre kidding? If i made such a find in germany the field would be closed by the archies and i had a hard time to discuss that with the farmer! :whip2: BIG congrats to the axe and speartip!

We are more relaxed over here about this period. Its now the 3rd Bronze Age item from the field, although the other piece was over 300 metres from these items. Its a very big field & the cropmarks which brought us to this field turned out to be mostly Bronze Age (we think). Which is normally a little disappointing as its hard to get anything from this period & we would prefer a later context with more finds :-\

Although we now have; Bronze Age, Roman, Saxon, Medieval. Just need Iron Age :wink:

I guessed in that topic that there is more to come... :tongue3: In our area the archies are bonded to excavation when bronze age finds are made. On our side of the rhine it is not that rare, but... A buddy found a part of a bronze age sword on the other side of the rhine. He showed it his archie.... He had a look, asked about the place it was found, gave it back and said: Wow! We didnt know of any bronze age activity there! I have to excavate this place but there is no money in our pockets. Keep that beauty, dont tell my collegues and never come back to me with finds like that. :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:
