Got out with dave today for a marathon, we actually hunted 5 separate spots, most felt like they were cherry picked, the first site the owner gave us a sort of time limit, we actually hit it for about 90 minutes total, I only snagged a token and the 1863 fatty indian from there indian.jpg site 1.jpg on to site #2, an early 1900s house, we didn't get much there either except I got a few more wheats and a 1943 merc down by the creek. site #2.jpg On the way out I stumbled upon a copperhead snake, ugly freakin thing!, snake.jpg on to site #3 dave secured this permission and we hit it for about 2 hrs, I got a few more wheats and yes..................that ever elusive war nickel 1944P!! sorry dave!!! war.jpg site 3.jpg had some lunch and found site #4, again dave got the permission quite easily, and we can go back anytime the owner said, 1870s home, got a bunch of clad and by this point I needed 2 wheats to hit 100 for the year, and low and behold got 99- and 100 from there, with a measly 1914 barber dime mixed in between!! lol, I was pumped to get that barber!, barber.jpg site #4.jpg we had to leave this place early too, all our hunts felt timed today! and finally site #5 a nice 1880 home, I secured that permission and the owner asked about a lost ring that sadly we didn't find, only got 2 wheats, a crotal bell, and a cool spoon from there, it started to rain pretty heavy so we went home after that. I must say im very satisfied with todays hunt!!

Nice finds, excellent old indian cent, congrats!
Also happy to let you know: NOT a copperhead snake, just an eastern garter snake, harmless.

Great hunt! Two silvers are always awesome, but as you know it's the bell for me. Mark is right Eastern Garter. One way to identify the Copperhead is what they call around here the hour glass designs along its body. Had one nestled against my leg while I was digging a plug once. I suddenly became the fastest runner in the world. It was amazing the lightning speed I was able to gain in such a short distance.

CJon that's a nice pile of keepers. I really admire those of you that have to continuously get permissions. I've got 40 colonial sites that I could go hunt on public land. You guys are tenacious and that's what it takes. Not sure if I could deal with that many people in one day

thanks abe, sometimes it feels like a struggle, but if ya want the goods, you do what you gotta do! id love to have sites like yours in the woods around me, sadly most of the woods is former strip mining with absolutely no historical significance lol

Either that or state game lands that are OFF LIMITS to us, yet hunters can blast away at the trees, while we would be carted off to jail or fined for disturbing the roots of poison oak. That's my anti-establishment, keeping whitey down rant lol.
I really like that spoon. Looks like some commemorative type.
Do you think Abe was taking the opportunity to remind us " Nah nah nah nah nah. My biggest problem is WHICH amazing site should I plunder and pillage today?" Lol.

Lol oh I would never........ok maybe I would lol. Well our economy sucks! Does that make you feel better? That's a result of this state not caving to huge corporations coming in and leveling our forests so I'm fine with it. Actually this area has been buying up huge acreage to give the public more area to enjoy. Our governor is a .......ok I'm not going to get into that. But this state is doing what it should in many respects

That's how it should be abe, one of the most historical states in this country, it'd be a shame to destroy the history with a brand new Walgreens, or rite-aid pharmacy, now that we have plenty of down Here lol!

You have no appreciation for our local history, my friend. I am telling you...watch " The Molly Maguires " with Sean Connery.

Nice finds, Chris! Good to see an intact Crotal being found. Way too often they are found in pieces or at least with large cracks. And the IH is in nice shape too.
