Great day half hunting - I think I found someone's collection
I get Friday afternoons off of work, and with all the kids and wife napping I decided to hunt halves in the area near my house. I had my route of about 10 banks, so with my wad of cash I was off. Most of the stops were noneventful, although I was able to score 8 40%s from teller trays and CWRs. Two of the stops, however, were worth sharing.
My first stop yielded two sealed half boxes they were desperate to be rid of. I searched them after I got home and score 15 40%s and 1 90% from the first box and 9 40%s from the second. Definitely glad I picked up those boxes.
It was one of my later stops I will remember as long as I do this. I walked into the branch with two tellers working the lobby. When I asked for halves, the teller responded by showing me the ones he had in his tray and saying I didn't want these "copper sandwiches". After a little laugh he asked one of the teller on break if she had any and she took a couple of minutes to pull 4 CWRs from her vault (found they were all clad when I searched in the car). As I am about to walk away from the counter the other lobby teller saw the half rolls and said she had 5 rolls. I instantly replied that I wanted them, gave her the cash, and was on my way.
Once I got to the car I searched those other 4 rolls and the 5 the second lobby teller gave me. That's when I got the shock. Open the first of the 5 rolls - all silver, mix of 40% and 90% Kennedy. Same for the second, third, and fourth. The fifth, while not solid silver, still yielded 8. Ended up being 71 40%s and 17 90%s.
Grand total for the day: 103 40%s, 18 90% (1964). Total silver value of about $750!
