Congrats on another amazing score WW! I'm gonna guess from the pics that nice 1917D Merc is around XF/AU condition but others may be able to give you a more accurate grade. Its a beauty that's for sure! And congrats on finding another Barber dime too. I forget, is that about your 5th Barber dime now?

In my unprofessional opinion, I'd say somewhere around F-12. The diagonal bands are visible for the VF-20 requirement, but the sticks aren't very well defined on the lower half of the fasces for the F-12 requirement, which I would think would bump the grade back down to F-12. AU would have most mint luster present, so I think it's safe to say that's out of the question. Awesome coin!

Silver face had it right - that's definitely a solid XF coin AT LEAST. I would grade it AU+. Many AU coins don't have much luster. It's more about wear (or lack of it) than luster. Some MS coins are dull w/out much luster. That's a great coin! The '17d is tough. I put together a complete set of Mercs in F to XF, and the '17d was the last coin I needed to fill the set. It's tough to find a nice one.

Yeah that's my fifth Barber all from CWR rolls. Hard to believe for the small amount that I search.

I would grade the Merc'17 as VF-Ext.Fine condition, leaning more to XF. Are you also a big saver of the 2009(s) as I see in your post. If so send me a PM about your findings and what your keeping.

I grade the 17d XF+ to AU based on your pic. That's nice and tough date in high grade!

As for value, retail is about $75. Wholesale (what you can expect from a dealer) is about $25ish. Somewhere in the middle on ebay. Great find!
