- Metal Detecting
When I was a kid I wanted a metal detector. But I never got one. (Got plenty of other great stuff, though, just not that.)
When I was a young man, I wanted a metal detector. But there were other things to be bought (food, say, and backpacking gear, and climbing gear, and caving gear, and archery gear ...). And, well, I never got one.
As a family man, I wanted a metal detector. But there were other things to be bought. Like even more food, and diapers, and school supplies, and food, and shoes, and family vacations, and food, and shoes, and orthodontics, and food, and college educations. I'm still in that phase. But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
And I finally have a metal detector.
I got it used, just today. I've only played around with it so far, but I'm certain its capabilities far exceed my own; any shortcomings in detecting will be entirely on the operator end of the stick for some time.
So far, I've gotten a headphone adapter, read a few posts about my particular model and made a few adjustments (cleaned out the electronic contacts, loosened the cord winding, and tightened up the batteries in their holder), and made some practice envelopes with various items so I can dial-in my ears on the different tones and readings.
I'm really looking forward to the journey, and glad to have found this online community!
