I just bought a used but excellent contrition 1500, it seems like a nice unit. I have read elsewhere that there was some software update on the latest versions, can anyone tell me if there is way to tell the age of my unit and if it might need to be upgraded?

Also, any thoughts are advise on using it would be appreciated. I'm new to metal detecting, this is my first!

The serial number is the key to the age of it. Drop the first digit - second digit is year, third and fourth is the number of the week it was produced.
