Chrysocolla. Often mistaken for Turquoise, it is often found mixed with Malachite, Turquoise, and Azurite. Pure Chrysocolla is rather soft but the mixed varieties can be cut into cabochons or made into beads.

Chrysocolla it could be but I find it more likely to be Malachite.

If you found that rock out there in the deserts of Southern California, it probably relates to prehistoric trade networks in the area. There is documented and extensive evidence of the indigenous inhabitants in your part of the world trading with Anasazi to the east of the Colorado River for that stuff.
