was walking fast on the same road I had previously found seated quarter and half dol.,and just kicked the ground and out popped this 1840 seated liberty.It is a bit rough,but wondering what the value is .

It looks like a drapery 1840. If there is no mint mark it is worth around $20. If it has an O, it is worth around $30.

All 1840 dimes were made in Philiadelphia. From the picture it looks like what is called Variety 2, (Stars on Obverse,drapery from elbow, upright shield) Very low mintage coin (377,500). Unfortunately it has some severe condition problems. Might get $10.00 for it.

He said it was a half dime, these were minted in New Orleans too.
