Found a new spot to look over the weekend. The land owner has been fixing some of his feed roads on the ranch getting them ready for winter, so he can get to his cattle out in the pastures.....He had a bulldozer come in and make some cuts next to the roads, where water always stands, so they could drain. We were driving to check the gravel bar below this place and I thought maybe this might be a good spot to look. Sure enough this knife was laying right on top of the ground, shining like a diamond ;D. And flint was scattered all the way down the cut.
I think this is a Harahey knife....Its beveled on each of the four sides.
Thanks for looking!

Thanks for looking!

It's a very nice Harahey sandcreek ...great find!

It appears the bulldozer has cut right through a campsite. Where there are Haraheys there will be Late Prehistoric point types such as Wa$hitas and Fresnos, so keep looking.

Thanks 11KBP! We'll be going back to check this place every time it rains---hopefully more artifacts will wash out!

Here's a couple more that my daughter Josie found a little further down the creek.

Just think! For every flint you see, How many do you not? Maybe it's time and a good place to get out the shovel and screen to start sifting. At least for a while to see what more you may turn up. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks, Lisa :hello: !
Yes, we found another spot that looks really promising  . And we think there might have been an old homestead nearby, because we found old stove parts and a part of a kerosene lantern. So, we've got a new place to metal detect too! :headbang:

I hope he keeps working that area. Beautiful knife. Looks like your daughter did well also. Has she taken any more deer this year?

Nice finds !!! Especially the Harahey. That looks like another good spot ...
Thanks buckshot :hello: ! Yes, another great spot......We need to walk the whole ridge above this creek and check all the drains that go into the creek. We seem to be finding more by doing that. Most of our gravel bars are limestone and that makes it really hard to see the artifacts---that limestone seems to put a film on everything.

Awesome finds, I would do some serious sifting in that area :icon_thumleft:
Thanks Ohio_Doug---we might try to do a little sifting this winter, just to see what we come up with.

Yeah--Wouldn't it be nice if everytime a spot like this came up, that you could just take a dozer and backhoe and clear the whole dang creek bottom?! :tongue3: :laughing7: I could seriously get into learning how to run big equipment if this was my land ;D .
Oh, and yes my daughter did get a nice buck---he was a 9 point, not as big as last years but she hunted really hard for a solid week and was tickled with him. I'll try to get a picture posted of her buck and also of my husbands(he got a nice one too!).
Thanks TnMtns!!
