Re: Has anyone tried the "Deep Scan" side scan unit from Sweden?

I saw some examples of the Deep Scan at an underwater technology conference.

It's pretty darned good. However, there is also another option which I know produces good results.

The starfish is made by Tritech, which is a professional grade sonar manufacturer. The starfish is a very lightweight unit with excellent portability and very good performance for the money.

I agree the Humminbird unit is not money well spent for marine exploration. It's a toy, made to show some neat-o images while you drive around in your yacht. Note the Humminbird uses a very small transducer with poor beam focus, no processing software, although there is a third party that has released the processing tools. However the Humminbird sidescan is really poor when it comes to resolution, noise immunity etc. Not worth it.

The starfish or Deep Scan is the way to go for sure. Check out the starfish mobile setup, with the carrying case and cable. It's ideal for small boat work.
