Stopped in today and somebody drop their vintage hats off for donation. Normally there's nothing really good but that was different today! All of them are NFL college and one NBA. There were a couple I threw out because I didn't notice how bad there were stains on two of them. But here's what I got a, $1.99 apiece.

A lot of them have not been worn yet. But this was stupid of me because now I forgot what I ordered I have them in which ones I have and haven't taken pictures yet of!

The $44.99 is money in the pocket at least. But which hat was it?! I always look for Rolls Royce and Mercedes caps at the TS, but very few of the others unless they are NCAA. I saw some NYPD yesterday, but they are available all over the place…and not authentic!

This one is worth a lot. I just talk to the guy on the phone and I was going to cancel the order but decided not to. I mean what good will do I have 100% feedback. It's a lot of money but then again I got gold earrings today for a dollar. I get really good deals by accident because I know what to look for. so actually what happened now is that he sent me a bunch of pictures of hats to look for that are really really good. So now I have even a better idea yeah I didn't make $400 on my hat but I paid two dollars for the thing, how mad can I be. It's one thing to have fun and sell stuff online but I think once I turn greedy and start doing something like canceling order because I found out later on how much the thing is worth then that's just shady on my end. I learned a valuable lesson tonight I could've made $400. But when I bought that hat I knew I was making $30 at least! There's no point in getting upset over it there's not. There will be more there will be a lot more! The next ones just gonna start at $.99 auction instead!!

That is still an awesome sale and you'll make plenty of more money on the other hats.
Crazy to think someone would pay that much money for a hat!

Hats are one of the few things not over-picked around me. One of the things I got started selling used and I still list a lot.

Did any of the potential UMiami hat buyers tip you off to what makes it so desirable? I pass on vintage sports hats all the time. The huge majority I come across are priced at $5 with condition issues and generally sell for $20-30 shipped in mint condition, so most would barely be worth the effort assuming they would get $10-15 with stains etc.

Is it because the mascot is smoking a pipe? This seems to be censored on all the newer stuff.

Nope, they are galled the Game. On the back outside is a decal with a letter G. The older ones, this is glued on. A lot of the time the glue lets go, it falls off so the ones still glued on are worth more. The newer ones the decal is sewn or stitched on. These are the styles from the Game that are worth a lot.

Also beachkid, I found your Pats hat listing, I really would suggest adding "splash" to the listing title. It's the name of the style and people search for it, it will definitely increase your views.

Yes, thanks. I did change that. I'm going to auction it this weekend. Took me a minute to get to it though. Thanks for the heads up.

Wow. In the mid 90's I knew a guy that worked at one of "The Game" stores. He had boxes of hats just laying around his apartment.....& when the store went out of business in the mid to late 90's they sold everything in the store for 50 cents an item. At least I know what to look for now.

Beachkid, thank you for posting all this info. I knew to look for hats, and have sold a handful of them for good $$$, but I've been mainly looking for quality hats with "made in USA" tags, and I pass up a lot more than I buy. Are these "Game" hats made in USA, or all over the place?

Thanks again for this gold mine of a post!

I have an offer of $110 on it but you hold out a little bit longer.
They're actually made by starter. Which was pretty popular back in the 90s. But no they are not made in the US they are made all over the place. Are some close-up pictures.

The one that I accidentally sold for $40 is made in Korea.
