Headphone PlugIns

[Beechfork]

I need some guidance.
After 6 years of use on the beach and inland, the male and female plugs for my headphones are not making a good contact for both right and left phones to work. It is sort of a hit and miss situation with one side working all of the time and the other kicking in once and a while.
What is the best way of cleaning both contacts?

you could try cleaning the female side with a q tip dampened with alcohol, the same with the male end
or just send it in and have them do a once over on it
