Who's to say what is appropriate ?

In this Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, photo provided by the family of Kimberly Walker, shows Walker's gravestone in the likeness of popular cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants. Despite getting prior approval for the gravestone from Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, the cemetery recently removed it, saying it did not fit in with the character of the historic and picturesque cemetery.

I guess it is me - I wouldn't mind it. My only suggestion would have been to make it a little smaller.

It's a cemetery.....not as if you would be forced to stare at it every day.

They got prior approval, spent a bunch of money, and then had it removed. That's wrong.

IMO a Veterans grave should be decorated any way his/her family sees fit.

They should be able to keep them up. Like others said they are approved. Oh guess some higher hierarchy felt different.

Hey, that would be so cool jeff of pa! Why not have a reason to smile when visiting a cemetary. Like I said - if it the headstone was a little smaller their wouldn't have been such a fuss (IMHO).

My guess Someone visited the Cemetery to Cry .
(maybe taking the kids to see where grandma is buried)
& either almost Smiled, Or saw others laughing & Giggling and got offended.

Fear of it becoming an attraction

Who says visiting a cemetery has to be dark & dull ?

Hay, a cemetery is a place of remembrance and I think each has a right to be remembered as they see fit. I know some cemeteries have a no headstone rule, but this place gave prior permission so I would sue them for stealing the stone. Frank...

I see nothing wrong with it.. I've met some of my best friends in a cemetery.. He served his country, his/his families wishes should be honored..

CINCINNATI (AP) — The family of a slain Iraqi war veteran wants her towering SpongeBob SquarePants headstone returned to her final resting place while the cemetery officials that removed it say that's the only thing they won't do, leaving both sides at an apparent impasse that may have to be decided in court.
Deborah Walker told The Associated Press after Tuesday's meeting with Spring Grove Cemetery officials that she'd consider their various proposals if they would think about hers — simply putting her daughter Kimberly's gravestone back.
But cemetery President Gary Freytag told the AP that isn't an option.
