My mother called to talk a while the other day and told me she was coming up for a visit. She also told me she had a bunch of old pennies for me to go through and add to my collection. I was elated!
She showed up and gave them to me in a pringles can which I didnt open until later, savoring the wait till I could open it and go through it.
She then told me the story of how she aquired them.
I was heartbroken when I saw the one penny, then the second and third, but when I saw the 1849 cent I was crushed!
My great uncle worked at Congoleum textile company and they shredded old clothes to make their product. Anything that fell on the conveyor belt was up for the taking and he aquired a lot of coins over the years. Unfortunately, the clothes rolled through heavy duty rollers and they got clipped, rolled and otherwise disfigured.
As the one token says, "NO CASH VALUE".
Well, at least I have the bullion!
