Heat forces me to the mountains...4th ring this week & token to boot!

Hey folks,

Banning has been scorching HOT the past three days, with temps from 107º to 111º!! Sooo, decided to head up to the mountains where temps were more along the lines of 85º and I came away with a few goodies. The areas I detected date back to the late 1800's, so I was hoping for a silver coin but no luck this time. But I have permission to go back and I probably will next week. .

Here are some of my finds from yesterday:

First, another ring! The fourth one in a week. This ring appears to be very similar to the much larger one I found in Banning a few months ago. It has some gold but is mixed in with copper and I can see a bit of green patina inside the setting (no stone...again!!). But this one is different in that it has no karat mark but reads "Robin Hood" inside the band. Any ideas???

Secondly, a neat token from the Palmolive-Peet Company, measuring about 1.25" in diameter. This token must have been made previous to 1928, as that is when they bought out Colgate and added it to the company name. I found a picture of one is good condition so you can see what it is supposed to read (although the text on the front differs a bit from mine). I would like to know how to clean the corrosion on such a token if anyone has any ideas.

Third, about 8 inches from the ring I found this necklace, which has fake stones but must have been real pretty when brand new. The chain almost looks silver upon close inspection but it's not.

Last of all, I found a 1915 S penny in great shape (not pictured). Not a bad haul for a few hours work while enjoying the beauty of the cool mountains. ;D

Congrats! I say gold is gold (which should be going up in $$ again). I agree and wish i could make it to the mountains to md. It was only 104 (that was in the shade) here in Anaheim.

-If any of you want an interesting/educational project/experiment try putting a thermometer (that goes to 150) in direct sun light.- One of mine blew up last month!

Very nice finds, rings too. You also have found what look like a neat spot, and it's out of the heat.

Thanks for sharing and good luck .

Neat finds. I love finding tokens. I went to the Mts. this past week too. The nights where cool enough for a blanket. Sure felt good compared to this Southern heat!
