Finds from a few other spots recently - lots of lead and found a crusty object I thought was a salt water silver quarter
but after rubbing some of the crust off it looked like the bust was something different - so thought I might have
a foreign coin or a medallion - broke crust off this morning - ta da ...silver religious medal!

they used to be mainly swimming spots - they make cuts to life guards and reduce the swimming areas up here
and now where they used to be swimming they are fishing

Awesome job, the medal is excellent!! Those fishing weights are not cheap. Some of them three to $5. If memory serves me.

Congrats to a Legend !!

would like to have found medal in fresh water it was probably real nice - its slightly bigger than a quarter
and your memory does serve you well - some shops get a pretty penny for them - I put a box out of different sizes yrs back at a yard sale just to see
if they'd sell - price of lead was lower than now - did not know what to ask - put 25c a piece on box - couple of guys were fighting over them
I know a lot of guys that just throw them away - one guy if he found a lot would dig a big hole in the wet sand at low tide and dump them in :tongue3:

Nice looking piece of silver Casper. Your doing well in the lead division, 50 lbs is worth a fare amount $$$ if you sold them off.

Great find, I love adding religious medallions to my collection also. I'm sure when I started I threw away some coins that I thought were just crust. Its amazing what can be found underneath!!!

Ahhh, I remember those "crusts". Always a surprise but it's also what got me out of the water. I hated seeing what the water does to silver coins.

Still a wonderful surprise!

when I was a kid in the late 70s - first detecting trip to the sea shore - was on a group hunt - myself and others had never experienced "cookie" coins
we thought they were washers or iron slugs - we did not know that was what happened to silver - we were all getting po'ed we were
finding so many at this one spot and we all were skimming them into the ocean :BangHead:
