Hello y'all, new here from San Antonio, 25 years old and excited to start treasure hunting, but before i do, i want to learn as much possible from the forum and some of you vets. and hopefully start in the right path.

I already have a place in mind, my grandfather has always told us about an indigenous gold mine on the side of the mountain down in Mexico. I know where it's located.
So my question is;
-what do i need? Tools etc.
-how do i go about it? Where do i look, what do i look for?
and if i find something? what do i do with it?
Any help or links would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Welcome to Treasurenet from your neighbor to the east. Terry has posted some great tips. If the mine had tailings piles, that would be a good place to start. You should consider a detector that is specialized for gold, you will be able to pick up smaller gold than what a general purpose detector will find. Not sure what to do if you find something in Mexico.
