I just got into this. Love history and finding things from the past. My dad
got a metal detector for christmas and this sping we tried it out. We found nothing
in his yard but I got hooked. So I bought one now. Would like to hear from anyone
in the area about the laws in Mn and Wi. I also do cowboy action shooting as my
main hobby. Thanks for your help.

Welcome! New here myself. If you look around the board more, there is a specific area for Minnesota, they might be able to help you more with your specific question. Happy Hunting!

I think you would be better served checking out specific city ordinances. Each town is different as far as public property. State if I'm not mistaken only rules over state parks and such. Welcome to the hobby though and I wish you the best.

Welcome, Coinstriking has good words of wisdom, know the laws before you get burned. Private property with permission is always good if you know of old homes or rental properties.

Hello from West St paul
most citys have there own rules its best to check them before detecting Dakota Co parks are out, State parks are out some parks and citys require permits just play it by ear and ask around like you did here
Godd detecting and see you in the field

Welcome to the site and hobby. You live in a good spot there on the border. Do some research and have a blast.

I know Wisconsin law only and since they are numerous you should do a web search of prospecting and/or treasure hunting laws which are normally found in a State DNR site. If not there, when you do the search it should come up.

I too have a metal detector and use it seldom as my main focus is gold prospecting. I do however know a little about them so fire away questions and I may be able to help you. The important thing with Metal Detectors is the strength and that is determined by what you are focusing on finding. Gold requires a stronger and more expensive model, etc.,

Best of luck to you from your neighbor to the East.
