Looks like a Confederate staff local. A very nice find!

On a different thread it was said it was a newer blazer button but thanks davers. It was dug where stonewall had 10000 troops camped in central Virginia so it's hard to believe it's a newer button but I'm no expert

Not saying it isn't a CS button but there is nothing like it in Albert's button book. The stipled background just has a modern look. A picture of the back will greatly help with an ID.
