Wife and I bought a metal detector a few months back, only used it 6 or 7 times, much fun. We are new to the hobby and new to the forums. Found an object wedged about an inch down in the crevices of a mostly flat river bed. The river bed is mostly if not all rock. The object looks like a coin on the front side but not the back. Can't read any dates, pretty eaten away around the one side. The object is thick and heavy, weigh's approximately the same as 3-4 modern Canadian loonies.
Attaching some photo's, anyone have any idea what it may be?
EDIT: Thanks for the replies fella's. This points me in a direction. From what I am reading Bale Seals were used in trade to certify quality. This particular object carries a copper tone on the front side and a weak magnetic property, perhaps a lead/copper mix?
Google seems to favor the Russian's for Bale Seal's. I'll keep looking to see if I can pinpoint a history to this seemingly Canadian version. Any and all additional knowledge is welcome.
