Sooo, yesterday, my family and I went to the beach, in California. My brother had just gotten a metal detector and we were messing around, when the metal detector picked up this rock, no doubt about it. None of us are rock experts so I would love some help figuring out what this is, if it's worth anything at all. While we were inspecting the stone, a man came up to us and chatted about it. He offered us $100 dollars at one point. He said if you opened it up there might be some crystals inside, but I'm not too sure I believe him. There is a small slab protruding from the stone, possibly iron. It looks like it might have been sharp once.

Honestly, know nothing about this, wanted to get some more opinions before I possibly tapped it with a hammer and opened it up.

Looks like a piece of conglomerate. Probably sand and gravel that filled a void in the basalt bedrock that gave it a peculiar shape.
