I was planning on bringing my AT PRO down to the Caribbean during a 2 week honeymoon this summer (Mostly I fresh water detect here in Chicago). I've watched a ton of videos and read the debates and I cannot decide if I should bring it down with me or not as many say its not worth it in the salt. I do NOT have a budget for another machine (Wedding, honeymoon, EXPENSIVE!). I know I should be fine in the sand, but I want to get in the water....as deep as I dare!

Add in, the chance of it being stolen from my room, lost in transit, etc etc...Is the potential payoff worth the risk? The beach that I'm going to use to actually be used to collect salt, so I anticipate a very salty beach.

If I play enough with the sensitivity, ground balance and frequency enough should it be serviceable enough to bring it all the way down?

PLEASE VOTE ON THE POLL AT THE TOP OF THIS FORUM POST!

Thank you :icon_thumleft:

I have no experience in the salt water myself, but the only way you will find out is to take it and try it. Make sure to ground balance. Good luck & happy hunting.

My advice to you is leave the detector at home and spend your honeymoon with your wife. If you don't she will give you grief for the rest of your life.

Thank you, really, its good advice, however, she is encouraging me...I wanted to go somewhere else and she said the Carib and that I should bring my MD!

Sounds like you are determined to bring it. Hope you find something really good, because in the long run it will cost you dearly. Trust me, I know.

Not determined, but its neither of our 1st rodeos...All relationships are different. MDing and beach glass hunting actually brought us together. Bride issues not withstanding I was really looking for more device advice.

Relationships are different, but women are not. They all have selective memory. Best of luck to you in your marriage.

Yes I would leave it at home. I got chastised for sneaking my Excal into my luggage for a cruise after 8 years of marriage( 2nd go around). And I didn't find anything worth a crap on the little tourist island they took us to. So I wish I hadn't taken it to start with, it wasn't worth the hell I caught. I especially wouldn't try it on a honeymoon.

I suppose she shouldn't bring any books to read because then she'd be enjoying her hobby. Tnet has officially turned into "Dear Abbey". Maybe I should ask Dr. Phil about the AT Pro in the Caribbean.

It should work fine in the dry sand, In the wet sand you'll probably get some falsing like DewGuru said. You might be able to tone back on the sensitivity to alleviate the falsing a little..

Hey you never know, one of you might lose a wedding ring and then your gonna wish you had your detector :laughing7:

I hunted with mine in South Florida with no problems at all...didnt find shii...but it never "falsed" like many people experience. I think it would be a gamble....but if the wife is encouraging you....then I would totally bring it, there is plenty of dry areas too!

Good luck!

I find lots of stuff in the dry sands here in Cali. If you are going to have the time to use it, bring it,

If your going to be there 2 weeks and she's encouraging you then I would take it. 2 or 3 days maybe not.
