I think I posted this one about a year ago but never got a clear answer on it. I've always been stumped on it and never really figured out what or if it was used for hunting or decoration. What do you guys think? Thanks for looking! Found In NC.

It's so hard to figure what I'm seeing. Can't really see it flaking because of the material. And the different angles seem distorted. If it's broken anywhere can you take a photo of it straight on with the broken end facing up? If it's not broken I would guess it was a point resharpened to a nub that you'll probably never figure out what it used to be.

Nice piece of quartz. Its hard to tell if it has been sharpened or if it is just square. So how are your fields doing up there Johnathon? Any new finds for us to see?

I don't think its broken or resharpened... I have quite a few resharpened.. I think it was made this way... I do believe it has a little broken chip on the blade but that's it.. does that help??

I don't know man... it looks like a heavly resharpened Morrow mountain to me. I can't explain how thin it is that's what has me stumped... it would be thicker if resharpened ..with more bevel...????

Gris - I might be an idiot, but it looks like a gun flint to me? The workmanship, style, shape are spot on. The area found makes sense. I've never seen a quartz gunflint, but who knows, that's what it looks like to me. Being uniface weighs heavily on my opinion.

Yeah! That never would have crossed my mind... But that's exactly what it looks like.

Not to rain on the parade, but quartz will only spark by deforming, not striking...

It took me 30 seconds to find quartz gunflint in a internet search.
This one is from an archaeological project at fort Tobacco Maryland. The crystal quartz Is finer grained than this milky quartz and should work better. Just search quartz gunflint. They belive this one to be Aboriginal And photoed it next to an English Flint.

I think Twitch gets the credit here. Using a computer to search is nothing but a thang.
That's a pretty cool piece. Now he just needs to find a bottle glass Arrowhead.

I believe the Clorox tribe were prevalent in his area 😆

Those Clorox bottoms seem to be preferred by modern knappers. I found an Aboriginal made one from an old wine or whisky bottle bottom.
