Hello, everyone (especially PBK)

I laid off my old haunt after the lard started looking like a minefield and went to the local school to put my DFX through more test. It passed with many coins i couldn't believe i missed. Here are the finds:

Silver plated hair clip (i think)
Old Chrysler key
old shotgun shell (probably 100 years old)
1945 wheatie
junk pendent
under a buck in clad

And an old button. It has a shield with decorations and a ribbon underneath it. The back is a rusted piece of crud, so no headstamp. Any suggestions?

Very nice. Love the button.
What does the shotgun shell headstamp say?

Hey, GC—

Some of the details are difficult to see, but I believe that it's probably a fairly modern (20th century) "blazer" button. Construction is typically thin, die-stamped copper or brass, often gilt, with a tinned iron or steel back. The backs are usually badly rusted or missing on dug examples. Many blazer buttons feature coats of arms or crests; others imitate the designs of old foreign coins. As a result, they can appear a lot older at first glance than they really are.

ok, i found it on a 1960's school yard. But it has many of the details of a military button. How old do you think this is?

Hard to say, although it could easily be at least 50 years old. Many blazer button designs have remained in production for literally decades.
