HELP! WHAT KIND OF BULLET CASING IS THIS?

I can't read anything that is on the headstamp and the neck of the casing has been crimped!?!?!

No it appears live. way to tell is if the primer is indented.
PS 5.56 is also .223 cal

It is definitely a .556 military training round. they use them with an adapter on the end of the rifle that when fired, it shoots a laser beam. When training you wear a vest and helmet cover with receivers on it that when hit with the laser gives off a really annoying high pitch tone that lets you know you've been hit. Kind of like a high tech version of laser tag used for combat training.

I think you're talking about a modern blank. I found this on an old abandoned WWII airfield. Far from any modern military operations by about 40-50 miles.
