Help with the proper term for someone who doesn't get elected president.

Hi, I need some help with something. I know that if someone gets elected they are called "President Elect", until they actually become the President. Is there a term for someone who runs for President, but loses? Do they just go back to they're original title? Thanks for any help.

I have noticed that some of the presidential candidates are referred to as a "former presidential candidate" well after they run for office. I guess it sometimes depends on how close they came to winning the election too.

Got the picture assembled, but my camera ain't working tip top at the moment, so You'll have to wait until Christmas to see the finished product. I'm really happy about how it turned out. It says "Former Presidential Candidate X X XX X X X X X X X X XXXXXXXX XX XXXXXXXX 1996 - 2007". He's XXXXXXX a XXXX XXXXXX in the picture, and there is a XXX XXXXXXXXXX mounted underneath the picture.

wannabe is one term but the guy who ran for decades including while he was in prison for fraud Lindon LaRouch was always called perrenial-presidential candidate LL. siegfried schlagrule
