Here's my full grooved axe found in Colorado

Hey ya'll.... It's been a good while since I have posted anything or made any comments. Been real buisy working In Illinois contracted out by a geophysical CO. Anyway, I got a new bad a** camera, the new Canon Power Shot; I love it. I am from TX, but found this nice artifact on the edge of the Gunnison River in Colorado during my field studies. I believe I have posted this full grooved axe before but they were crap pics. I appreciate this piece because it has beautiful ancient scars caused by impact. The fractures are too cool on this metamorphic hardstone artifact. I will have to get back with you on the name of the metamorphic rock type, all I know is that it has Magnesium in it which makes it green in color and it might have Serpentine included within the rock. You can see the impact fractures along both sides clearly now thanks to a good camera. ENJOY..

Thanks Chong, I SH** my pants when I found it doing pebble counts for the University of Buffalo. It's funny, I was picking up metamorphic cobble, sedimentary, and metamorphic cobble, and her she is. She just looked out of place.

That thing is GINORMOUS!! What do you think it weighs? I bet it was a two handed axe or a strong dude swinging it....wouldn't want my melon cracked by it, that's for sure!! :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft:

I remember that one from back in the day, she's a beauty. Nice crispy pics too. Looks sort of like the local greenstone here, but I doubt that's what the material is.

Hey abarnard,

Great piece, seems like some of the best stuff is found by accident sometimes.

Yeah Bravo I know... It was just a lucky find to say the least. Only the nose of the axe was showing, and the rest was under silt and coble. It just looked out of place and different from the rest of the coble. What gave it away was the impact fracure on the nose.
