Pumice, those are really COOL relics. Do you think the tags came off of old aviation "Jerry" cans from a nearby small airport? Maybe an old rancher or farmer re-purposed the cans and removed the tags? Nice mystery waiting for some internet detective-work by you... congrats, Subterranean.

Thanks Sub.....
I was thinking along the same lines..... some guy "back in the day" had his spray plane or private aircraft at this end of the field. All of his bulk tanks right on the edge of the field. And that's the 64 thousand dollar question.....how did the tags end up to be there?

How far out in the country is the field where these were found? Could it be where a US mail plane might have landed?

Very interesting.

DCMatt,
Neat poster!
The nearest town to these is about two miles away. Pop. about 600. Has been like that for litterly decades. These were found right next to a set of RR tracks that was built in the late twenties. Just west, down the track is a fertilizer distributor. The whole area were I live is ranching/farming, thousands of square acres of it.
That is why I had a tendency to lean towards a spray plane being here, but there sure isn't any reason why this guy couldn't have been carting mail around the country to make some extra cash.....buy some more Zerolene........
