Herkimers & Green Crystals

I picked up my pal Scotto yesterday & we went to two locations in SE OK to look for Herkimers & Crystals with green inclusions.
They are found on land owned by timber companys, & you have to walk the ditches when they grade the dirt roads, I found a nice arrowhead right off the bat, then we started finding Herkimers, after we got home & washed them up, I had a 'cluster of Herkimers' on a main stem, a first for me, also some with red inclusions.
Later we moved South a few miles & started finding 'Green Crystals', nothing with any good points, but we had a fun day.
Last pic is a 'double terminated' green that I bought a few years ago.

We spent some time at the Herkimer mine in NY a few years ago. Hit a nice little pocket. Got some double-terms, even a coiple of enhydros. I should do a post on them sometime !

You should post them, we had 'tough luck' last year when we went, but enjoyed the country.

Like everything else, the better the 'quality', the price goes up, I paid $30.00 for the large one (last pic),
but wouldn't sell it for that. :wink:

I picked up 3 5 gal buckets of those at a yard sale, I have been meaning to figure out how to clean them. Dident know if they was worth anything.

Wow, good find, we didn't have to clean these, but you can use 'oxilic acid' to clean off rusty stains.
They tell me to bring water to almost boiling, then turn off the heat, pour water in plastic bucket, gently add acid,stir, then add the crystals, (rubber gloves & goggles) would be good.
Let set for 24 hrs, rinse, & they should be clean, if not repeat the process.

These are really dirty Fossis, a lot of Iron rust lucks like. As soon as I can I will get to them to clean them.

I would soak them in 'hot soapy water', then scrub with a brush, then try oxcilic acid .

Thanks, these crystals have a green 'mossy look' inside them, not sure what it is.
The pic's on (Hunting The Pine Plantations), show the color better.

Some of the 'yellow' may not come off with acid.
