Thanks for sharing. It shows houses and other things for my county. Wished there was a legend, but its ok, I will still take the map.

Legend has it......

Check some of the other maps Sue....I don't know which your looking at but the couple i glanced at did have legends.

Thanks for that link....I've been hoping for something like this.

I used to have a County by County atlas of Pennsylvania from the early 70's, which somehow got lost over the years, but I used it to find many ghost towns of the past. The format was almost identical to these...no houses, just roads and town names. It even listed those old state road numbers that were designated to dirt roads. I'd follow those little signs and find my targeted town.

If you pay attention when you're driving someplace, you'll see those white markers at roads with old state rte. numbers that never made it to the newer maps because they were too small and insignicicant. They gave those roads a name, but the state number...not really needed...but useful now when doing research.

Al,

I was looking at the Westmoreland County 1941 sheet 2 and didn't see a legend. Maybe my eyes need examined.

Yikes......that looks like a jigsaw puzzle......lol made my eyes crossed.

Try 1941 sheet 1...that has your legend. More puzzle pieces too.

Eah group from a year seems to have the legend on the first page and none on the other pages. Like your next group for 1960. It will have a legend on sheet 1 but not sheets 2 & 3.

Wait til you look at your 1960 group puzzles.....seems they forgot to tell you where the puzzle pieces go on the 3rd page. Not sure of the others but confusing to me.

Very valuable site, thank you. I checked out all the maps for Potter County. Last one was 2002. Wonder what 2011's will look like after all the new marcellus shale gas sites have gone in. They are all over Potter County. ;D ???
